Gematria is an ancient Hebrew practice of assigning numerical values to letters, words, and phrases in order to shape their meaning. This can be done in a variety of ways, although the most popular is known as the Jewish Kabbalistic system. At its simplest, each letter in a word or phrase is allocated a single digit number according to its position in the alphabet - the first letter being 1, the second 2 and so on.
A gematria calculator is an online tool used to calculate the numerical value of words or phrases. It takes into account all of the various theories used in ancient Hebrew gematria (including those attributed to Asher ben David, Simon bar Yochai, etc). By entering words or phrases into the calculator, users can quickly and easily analyze how each word contributes numerically to the overall meaning.
These calculators are often used for two major reasons: studying religious texts or searching for some kind of deeper insight into life itself. By examining numerological meanings from within Holy Scriptures such as The Bible or The Torah (known as isopsephy or kepha), one is able to learn about spiritual truths and Enlightenment by delving into its mysteries. Alternatively some people use gematria calculators when searching for hidden insights has come up with answers that have proven reliable time and time again. It's often said that gematria unlocks our inner wisdom if you are willing and open enough toward it.
For example if you enter 'love', it will translate it into 33 - a number with significance partied due its association with Jesus Christ who was "said" to have died at 33 years old - but also has other more spiritual interpretations. In Jewish Kabbalah, it symbolizes absolute perfection (for they 33rd path connecting four spheres on the Tree of Life).Another important number when using gematria calculators is 108 - which appears everywhere from Hinduism (108 names for Lord Shiva) and Buddhism (there are said to be 108 Buddhist symbols) all over world mythology!
